Cleaving not Leaving “God’s Design for Marriage” A Prayer for Cleaving in Marriage

Father God,

We come before Your throne in prayer today because we love You with all our heart, and with all our soul, and with all our mind which is our first and greatest commandment from You, Mat 27:37-9. We know the only way we can love others is to first love You! We thank You for the institution of marriage and the many benefits and joys that streams from this holy ordinance. We come before You today, grateful for the sacred bond of marriage—a union You designed from the very beginning. As we reflect on Your Word in Genesis 2:24, we are reminded of Your intention for husbands and wives to cleave to one another, be

ming one flesh.

Cleaving Hearts: May husbands and wives cleave to each other with unwavering devotion. Let their hearts be intertwined, bound by love, trust, and commitment. Help them prioritize their relationship above all else, leaving behind past attachments and distractions.

Unity: Just as You are a triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—may couples experience a holy unity. May they walk together in-purpose, supporting and encouraging each other. Let their differences complement rather than divide them.

Strength in Challenges: Life brings trials and storms, but we ask for Your grace to help couples cleave even when the winds blow. When difficulties arise, may they cling to You and to each other, finding strength in their shared faith.

Forgiveness: Lord, teach couples to forgive as You have forgiven us. When hurt or misunderstandings occur, may we choose reconciliation over resentment. May our love be resilient, able to withstand the tests of time.

Intimacy: Bless the physical and emotional intimacy within marriage. Let it be a reflection of the deep spiritual connection between Christ and His Church. May couples cherish the gift of oneness, honoring each other’s bodies and souls.

Legacy: As couples cleave, may their love leave a legacy—a witness to Your faithfulness. May their children and generations to come see the beauty of covenantal love and desire it for themselves.

Lord, We look forward to Your return to claim Your Bride, the Church.

In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
