On Friday, February 10, 2023 a 17 year old lost her life while hiking in Kane Creek Canyon in Utah. She was hiking with friends, slipped on a steep rugged hiking trail and fell 30 feet to her death.
As I read this I thought about several things:
– was this a planned hike or impromptu
– had they hiked this path before
– did they have proper hiking gear
– most importantly had she accepted Jesus as Lord
It’s sad, but to some the priority of salvation doesn’t become important until its too late.
Colossians 3:2
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
A majority of themes shared last month among the SOS Prayer Network Calls, centered on love. We were also reminded of the love types:
- Eros: erotic, passionate love
- Philia: love of friends and equals
- Storge: love of parents for children
- Agape: love of mankind
Man often speaks a four letter word to curse, but here God speaks a four letter word to bless. Read more about God’s love in 1 Corinthians 13.
A summary of love’s permanence: love abides forever. Verse 13, And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Love is greatest because it will continue, even grow, in the eternal state. When we are in heaven, faith and hope will have fulfilled their purpose. We won’t need faith when we see God face to face. We won’t need to hope in the coming of Jesus once He comes. But we will always love the Lord and each other, and grow in that love through eternity.
As implied before the greatest measure of love mankind can show, is to be concerned about ones salvation. It is this love that motivates SOS
Enrichment Inc and the SOS Prayer Network Call Leaders week after week, month after month, and year after year. Their love for God is immeasurable, and they serve irregardless of the season.
